Stories that Became Impact

If you joined our newsletter community, the Afripreneur Exchange: A Voice of the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative this year,  welcome home! You’re now part of an inspiring community of 25,000 women entrepreneurs across Africa and the diaspora.  You’re officially connected to a powerful network of builders, dreamers, and doers shaping the future of African business.  For eight years, AWEC has been unlocking the potential of women entrepreneurs across Africa, helping them build businesses, lead with confidence, and strengthen their communities.

The African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative (AWEC) is a 12-month leadership and business capacity-building program that equips African women with the knowledge, network, and tools to grow scalable businesses. Launched in 2017 through the Center for Global Enterprise, AWEC combines digital coursework, live sessions, mentoring, and cross-border collaboration.

Over the past eight years, AWEC’s Core Program has supported 1,600 women entrepreneurs across 53 African countries and the diaspora, spanning 40+ industries. Through these entrepreneurs, AWEC has also indirectly impacted over 8,000 employees, who have benefited from stronger leadership, better-managed businesses, and revenue growth. Across all program years, AWEC continues to achieve an average 77% completion rate for its blended learning program, far exceeding industry averages.

In addition, through our alumnae’s commitment to paying their experiences forward, AWEC’s Community Champions Initiative has trained more than 15,000 women across Africa, strengthening leadership skills, increasing revenue, creating jobs, and building networks that expand impact beyond individual businesses.

When the Ripple Becomes You: Stories of Growth and Impact

In 2025, we did more than publish stories. We amplified voices that needed to be heard. We documented boldness in real time. We celebrated women who chose growth in the middle of uncertainty, women who built through challenge and turned purpose into progress.

Women entrepreneurs show what it means to lead with resilience and vision. Month after month, we had the privilege of capturing their journeys: the quiet wins, the bold pivots, the hard lessons, and the breakthroughs that remind us why this work matters.

These stories are more than articles. They are living proof that when women do better, everyone does better.  Discover yourself in them. Become inspired by what’s possible when women rise together.

As we charge into 2026 with excitement and purpose, we pause to celebrate the milestones of 2025. AWEC’s impact is visible not only in numbers, but in lives transformed.

Behind every data point is a woman who made a decision to grow. Here are just a few of their stories.

From Founder to Strategist

Patricia Gwello, founder of Native Allure in Ghana, joined AWEC at a point where her business needed more than passion. It needed a strategy. Through the program, she learned to shift how she led, moving from reactive decision-making to intentional, high-impact leadership. By restructuring her time, building systems, and delegating effectively, Patricia began working on her business rather than just in it. Today, she leads with poise, running a more resilient, purpose-driven brand.

"AWEC gave me the tools to lead strategically and build a business that works for me, not the other way around."

Clarity Replaced Overwhelm

Before AWEC, Scola Penora was stretched thin, managing multiple ventures under HECASA Homestay and Safaris Ltd. in Tanzania. Despite her management background, she lacked the practical know-how to focus and scale effectively. AWEC gave her the skills to rebuild, delegate, and introduce structure. Today, Scola runs an organized, strategic business and guides her growing team without fear.

"AWEC transformed my overwhelm into clarity and gave me the audacity to lead."

Stronger Teams, Bigger Reach

Enobong Etuk, founder of Boldoz Bookstore in Nigeria, had struggled with hiring the right people to grow her business. Through AWEC mentorship, she streamlined her hiring process, strengthened her leadership, and intentionally scaled her business. This led to increased sales, a new product across multiple countries, and recognition as a speaker and facilitator in Africa.

"AWEC helped me build the right team and gave me the confidence to scale my business beyond borders."
